In 2016, the Fathom Adonia cruise had a program in Cuba and the Dominican Republic that combined the pleasures of cruising with volunteering opportunities.
There were planned activities in Cuba that provided interaction with the very artistic Cuban poeple. I was able to interact with students in an art program and enjoy several musical programs.
In the D.R. I enjoyed teaching English to families and in a local school. I also helped build a concrete floor for one of the members of the community. In addition, I helped sort and plant seeds in a chocolate factory.
The Fathom Adonia no longer does the social impact activities. Princess tried to continue the program, but it is now discontinued. I really like the idea of voluntourism and hope similar programs will become available.
